What’s Included in Your Data Protection Apprenticeship

Begin your learning journey by developing a solid understanding of the UK Data Protection Regime, including how key legislation and regulations affect organisations across sectors. You’ll also build essential skills in data and cyber security, learning how to identify vulnerabilities, assess risk, and implement robust protective measures to safeguard sensitive and confidential information.

Building on your foundational knowledge, this next stage of the programme focuses on developing the skills needed to handle Data Subject Rights Requests with confidence, including access, correction, and deletion requests.

Next, you’ll learn how to design and implement effective Data Protection Policies and Procedures that support ongoing organisational compliance. Finally, you’ll explore how to establish strong governance frameworks to ensure secure, consistent data management across all departments.

In the third stage of the apprenticeship, you’ll advance your expertise by learning how to identify, evaluate, and manage data protection risks within an organisation. You’ll explore practical methods to address potential threats and implement systems to monitor and mitigate risk effectively.

Building on this, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, focusing on how to balance transparency obligations with data protection requirements. You’ll also develop the skills needed to process information access requests efficiently and lawfully.

Near the end of the programme, you’ll gain in-depth knowledge of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, learning how to manage requests for environmental data while aligning public access rights with core data protection principles.

You’ll also enhance your records management skills, developing structured systems for organising, storing, and securely disposing of information. Finally, you’ll ensure compliance with data retention policies and relevant regulatory standards, supporting long-term information governance across your organisation.

In the final stage of the programme, you’ll sharpen your skills in communication, influencing, and persuasion, learning how to engage stakeholders effectively, explain complex data protection concepts clearly, and build support for compliance initiatives across your organisation.

In addition, you’ll explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and data protection, examining how AI impacts privacy rights and regulatory obligations. You’ll also learn to design and implement systems that ensure AI technologies remain compliant with data protection laws.
